Michael Ackerman has provided voters with clear stances on key issues by responding to the 2022 Political Courage Test.
| No | In order to balance the budget, do you support an income tax increase on any tax bracket? | ||
| No | Do you support expanding federal funding to support entitlement programs such as Social Security and Medicare? | ||
| We can balance the budget and fund Social Security by eliminating waste and being fically responsible. | |||
| Yes | Do you support the regulation of indirect campaign contributions from corporations and unions? | ||
| No | Do you support the protection of government officials, including law enforcement officers, from personal liability in civil lawsuits concerning alleged misconduct? | ||
| If any elected or appointed goernment official including law enforcement violates the law while performing the duties of their office, they should be held both criminally and civilly liable. | |||
| No | Do you support increasing defense spending? | ||
| Just as with the overall budget, we must get rid of the wasteful spending, and make sure every dollar is going where it is supposed to first. Once that is done if there is a need it should be addressed appropriately. | |||
| No | Do you support federal spending as a means of promoting economic growth? | ||
| Yes | Do you support lowering corporate taxes as a means of promoting economic growth? | ||
| Yes | Do you support providing financial relief to businesses AND/OR corporations negatively impacted by the state of national emergency for COVID-19? | ||
| Small businesses deserve to be compensated for the horrible policies enacted because of COVID, that forced many out of business. | |||
| Yes | Do you support government funding for the development of renewable energy (e.g. solar, wind, geo-thermal)? | ||
| Yes | Do you support the federal regulation of greenhouse gas emissions? | ||
| Yes to both of these but within reason. I do not support either of these at the expense of our energy independence. I do not support either of these if they come at the expense of jobs in fossil fuels, and our taxpayers. I think we should always work towards innovation in a common sense approach. The government can provide guidance regarding greenhouse emissions, but again not at the expense of the fossil fuel energy. There can be a common sense balance. | |||
| Yes | Do you support repealing the 2010 Affordable Care Act ("Obamacare")? | ||
| No | Do you support requiring businesses to provide paid medical leave during public health crises, such as COVID-19? | ||
| Yes | Do you support the construction of a wall along the Mexican border? | ||
| Yes | Do you support requiring immigrants who are unlawfully present to return to their country of origin before they are eligible for citizenship? | ||
| To the second question, this is a complex problem and we cannot throw every illegal immigrant into the same "basket" so to speak. There is a difference between someone who was brought here as a child, and has never known any other nation than the US as their own, and someone who chose to come here illegally as an adult. These are two different situations that need to be dealt with differently. | |||
| No | Should the United States use military force to prevent governments hostile to the U.S. from possessing a weapon of mass destruction (for example: nuclear, biological, chemical)? | ||
| Yes | Do you support reducing military intervention in Middle East conflicts? | ||
| President Trump proved diplomacy if properly balanced with strength can result in peace accords in the Middle East. | |||
| Yes | Do you generally support removing barriers to international trade (for example: tariffs, quotas, etc.)? | ||
| I think proper trade agreements can be reached that would benefit both our exports and imports. | |||
